Principles
The university was established in 1971 by the late Dr. Naoyoshi Kanazawa as a social science university consisting of Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Law. The founder foresaw the popularization of universities and eliminated elitism from his institution. It was his heartfelt desire to establish a university for all people. He contended "students must learn truth not only through concepts but also through realism, which is practice. For young people who have a strong desire to learn and endeavor to realize their educational aspirations, we must provide an opportunity for advanced, specialized and comprehensive education without discrimination." He made every effort to make his conviction a living reality.

Dr. Kanazawa also commented that economics and law were the twin pillars of society and he believed that a student could build a praiseworthy character by mastering both subjects. This belief was supported by his own experience as he had studied both economics and law at Kobe University. This is why our university established two faculties at its opening, Faculty of Economics and Faculty of Law.

In 1991, the university adopted a new educational precept: "Humanization: all people have a duty to build a rich and powerful character." As the three keystones to support this new credo, we committed ourselves to internationalization, advance of information technology and small-class sizes study.
