The Asian Research Institute
The purpose of the Asian Research Institute is to conduct interdisciplinary research and studies over a wide range of fields, including political science, law, economics, sociology, history, and culture, mainly in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The Asian Research Institute was established in December 1987, and at the present time the Institute consists of 31 staff members, who are the teaching staff at Osaka University of Economics and Law, and some 170 visiting researchers from Japan and overseas.
The affairs of the Institute include the following
1. Publications
- Academic review East Asian Studies in Japanese, published four times a year
- Academic review East Asian Review in English, annually
- Latest information magazine Asian Forum in Japanese, published twice a year
- Asian Research Institute Monograph Series in Japanese
- In-house materials Asian Research Institute News, published twice a year


2. Study meetings
- Monthly study meeting
- Kanto historical material study meeting
- Altaic study meeting
- Far eastern study meeting
- China study meeting


3. International Symposium
- The Conference on East Asian Studies "Economic Globalization, Regionalization and East Asia" (sponsored by the Center for East Asian Studies, Peking University and the Asian Research Institute, Osaka University of Economics and Law, held every two years)


4. Overseas Academic Cooperation
- Academic exchange agreement with the Department of East Asian Studies, the University of Toronto, Canada (1995)
- Academic exchange agreement with the Institute for Korean Unification Studies, Yonsei University, Republic of Korea(1996).
- Academic exchange agreement with the Center for East Asian Studies, Peking University, China (1999)
- Academic exchange agreement with the Center for Japanese Studies, National Center for Social Science and Humanities, Vietnam (2001)
- Academic exchange agreement with the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies, National Center for Social Science and Humanities, Vietnam (2001)


5. Open Lecture for Citizens
"Kita Osaka Open Lecture" (jointly organized with the Toyonaka City Board of Education), held in May or June every year
